History
Boyd Avenue Baptist Church began in a west side Casper home with a Bible study on August 12, 1956. With rapid growth, those people called a pastor, purchased property on Boyd Avenue and CY and became a church with 25 charter members in February of 1957. Since that time, by God’s grace, this body of believers has grown, had an impact on many lives and weathered the booms and busts of the community it serves.
Boyd Avenue has remained true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout its history, and looks forward to ministering for His glory in the years ahead. To that end, we have constructed a multipurpose building which we pray will multiply our opportunities for ministry and fellowship. Senior Pastor
Ed Tharp
Ed Tharp began serving as senior pastor in December, 2019. Previously he had been the student minister at Boyd Avenue since November of 1997. Ed is a graduate of Casper College with a degree in communications, has received both a Diploma of Christian Ministries and a Diploma of Theology from Gateway Seminary and holds a Masters of Theological Studies from Gateway Seminary. Ed and his wife Rebecca have four children.
Associate Pastor
Wesley Avent
Wesley Avent was called as associate pastor in February, 2020. He has a B.S.E.E. from the University of Wyoming, and a Diploma in Christian Ministries from Gateway Seminary. He and his wife Kerri have two children.
Music Director
Scott Baxter

Scott Baxter has been the music director at Boyd Avenue since 2007. Scott is an accomplished musician and has a heart for leading us to worship together. He is also a civil engineer for the City of Casper. He and his wife Jessica have three children.
Student Pastor
Steven Schall
Steven Schall began serving as youth minister in June 2020. He is a graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in criminal justice. He has a diploma in Christian Ministries from Gateway Seminary and is now pursuing a master’s degree from Gateway. His wife is Alyssa.
Children's Ministry Director
Dawn Highum
Dawn has been a part of our church her entire life and has been active in several areas of children’s ministry. She is working with Boyd Avenue children’s ministry leaders as they together help cast vision and plan ways to best minister to the children in our church and community. She and her husband Jess have two children.
