Dear Church Family,
One of the little discussed, but essential ingredients to a strong and growing church is this thing called “leadership”. While all of us understand that the success of any enterprise is directly related to leadership, we spend little time working to develop new leaders. I think, many times, we expect leaders to simply magically appear out of the mist. Or, we think that if someone wants to be a leader, God will bestow all the leadership skills on them that they will ever need. Both of these ideas can lead to a great vacuum of leadership.
The reality is that God calls on us many times to lead. The Great Commission itself is a call to Christians to lead others not only to a saving knowledge of Christ, but to lead them in discipleship as they begin the Christian journey. Over the past couple of weeks, I have had conversations with different people about our Church needing more leaders. Sometimes, we have great difficulty finding leaders and then those who try to lead sometimes have difficulty defining their tasks.
Leadership is a skill and gift that is God-given. If someone sings well, we readily identify that skill and quickly recruit him or her into the choir or other places to use this gift. But, leadership tends to be a little less obvious, both to the leader and to those who need to be led. Leadership is a skill that needs to be exercised. It is sad to see people with great leadership potential seek no opportunity to utilize that skill. Poor leadership can be improved with prayer, study, and practice. Leadership is a skill that must be developed and sharpened. No leader is complete as he/ she currently stands.
This August 5-6, we are being given a fantastic opportunity to grow as leaders. The Global Leadership Summit is being brought to Casper. Highland Park Community Church will be a satellite site for this conference, being broadcast from Chicago. They have invited us to be a part of this wonderful and unique opportunity. I have spoken to people whose judgment I trust, who have attended in past years and they give glowing reports. Speaking at the conference will be some of the great leaders from church, politics, and business. Early registrants can sign up for $95.00. Waiting too long to sign up could cause this price to go up considerably. But, the low price is not why I would encourage you to participate in this conference. Time is too valuable to ask anyone to waste. So I encourage you to consider being a part of this opportunity. You will be taught much about leadership and you will be challenged to step into the role of leadership. If some of us will do this, under the leadership of the Father, then there will be many great things that we will see God do in our lives, and in the lives of those we lead. If you are interested, give me a call and I will help you get involved in this.
In Christ,
Pastor Quin
