Outside Resources

At Boyd Avenue Baptist Church, we offer a wide range of musical styles and various levels of participation. We believe there is value in traditional styles and contemporary styles, as long as God is glorified, the good news of Jesus Christ is proclaimed, people are encouraged, and the Word of God (the Bible) is not compromised. The words that we sing are so much greater than the notes, rhythms or instruments that we play.

During our Sunday morning worship services you will almost always hear an even selection of good baptist hymns and contemporary worship songs. The music is selected in an attempt to support the sermon message and Bible passage each Sunday. All of our music is supported by piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and drums. We have a modest Choir of about 12 to 20 voices on most Sundays, and a few of our  singers help lead all of our congregational music. We take a special interest in training young people to help lead music, so you’ll see our youth participating in almost everything we do!

The BABC Choir presents a special music number almost every Sunday morning at the 10:30a worship service. The style may be acapella (voices only, no instruments), southern gospel, traditional gospel anthem, choral, or contemporary. Most songs are done with live accompaniment by our band. Our choir is a NON-AUDITION choir, so if you’re interested in singing with us, for God’s glory, feel free to join us on Wednesday night at 7:45 for practice. The only age requirement is that youth must be going into 6th grade and must be well-behaved and respectful. Our choir also performs a few extra numbers around Christmas and Easter each year to enhance special worship services.

The BABC Praise Band consists of about 12 to 14 musicians who can handle individual responsibilities in their area of expertise, balance the added commitment of their time and energy, and offer their gift to our church body with the humble heart of a servant. Our praise band vocalists are required to participate in choir, have excellent music reading skills and pitch recognition, and honor a dress code for Sunday morning worship services. Our praise band instrumentalists are required to play multiple styles, making creative additions and working very flexibly to incorporate directed adjustments. The praise band instrumentalists support our congregational music, choir music, and some special music numbers. If you believe God is calling you to participate in this capacity at BABC, please talk with Music Director, Scott Baxter, to see if there is a place for you to serve! We have needs in every area of our band, both in primary roles and backup roles. Church membership is required for our Praise Band members.

At Boyd Avenue Baptist Church, we rely heavily upon our audio and visual technicians to enhance our Sunday morning services and many of our special services throughout the year. We use one tech on sound and one on computer each week. If you have the heart of a servant and believe God is calling you to this type of ministry, please talk with Music Director, Scott Baxter. Church membership is required for our AV Techs. Prior experience is preferred but not necessary. We can train you to “push all the right buttons.”
