April 2018

Walking through our church on Wednesday nights I am humbled as I observed teachers and children interacting. These teachers spend time preparing and then devote themselves to teaching the children. I began to think of how nights like these would leave a lasting impact on those children.

I remember when I was a young boy, sitting in Sunday School, learning the stories of the Bible.  We learned about Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, Moses leading the people out of Egypt, Jonah and the great fish, Joshua and the battle of Jericho, the stories of Jesus and His miracles, and the journeys of Paul.   When I was a little older we would spend time doing Bible drills and memorizing scripture.  I can’t recall the names or sometimes even the faces of those who taught me, but I remember learning these important stories and practices of the faith.  Years later, when I went through a period of struggle and eventually returned to my faith, these lessons stuck with me.  I thank God for the men and women who took the time to teach and train me as a child.

As a teenager, God put a couple of Godly men in my life to give me advice and guidance.  Unfortunately, at the time, I ignored much of their advice.  Still, their words remained with me and eventually they played an important role in my life.  These men took the time to spend with me when they saw no immediate results.

In college, God again placed great men and women in my life to teach and train me for what He was calling me to do.  People who gave of themselves for the purpose of helping another.  I have learned so much from these people.  Some of them have no idea the impact they have had on my life.  God used pastors, teachers, deacons, and just some God-fearing individuals to help mold me into the person I am today.

Most of the people who impacted my life have no idea of the important role they played.  They were just doing what God had called them to do as they served in the ministries that were set before them.  They were obedient to teach and love the students that God entrusted them with.  The results of that were in God’s hands.

Let me say thank you to all of you who take the time to invest in our students. There are so many of you that there is no way I can thank you all by name. You teach, share, give, and pray for the children, youth, and college students. Hopefully we see some of the result of our work, but if not, know that God has entrusted us with children and youth to teach and to love.  We have no idea how God may use some of them in the future.  We are to be obedient and give them the tools for a successful life as a Christian.   Each of us has a part to play.  God has given us the opportunity to impact the lives of children and youth.  Join with me in praying for and ministering to the students that God brings across our path.
